A. Getting to the Live Map

  1. Go to https://safarisight.wordpress.com/maps/ to see a list of the available Live Maps.
  2. Live Maps are categorized by states or large metro areas (KC and MSP). Select the category, then select the Live Map you want to see.
  3. If you are logged into your Discord account that is connected through your Patreon subscription on the browser that you are attempting to access the Live Map from, you will land on a Discord authentication page that says, “Connect to Discord” in a blue banner at the top. You must allow Discord to see what servers you are in (it is just checking to see if you are in the Safari Sight Premium Server) in order to load the Live Map. Mobile users – You may need to scroll down on this page to select the “Authorize” button.
    • If this is your first time accessing the Live Map for an area, it may take 30 seconds to a few minutes for the page to fully load, depending on your device.
    • If you receive an error page that says “Safari Sight Premium Discord Membership Not Detected”, you may not be connected to the correct Discord account (if you are a Patron). Please follow this troubleshooting guide: https://safarisight.com/guides/connecting-patreon-to-discord/
    • If you receive an error page that says “Bad Gateway”, please alert an administrator in the #help-request channel of the Premium Safari Sight Server.

Your show/hide settings will be saved each time you access the same Live Map on the same device (settings are not saved between different Live Maps or different devices) unless you clear your cache or reset your preferences.
  • Show/Hide raid & gym filters

Your show/hide settings will be saved each time you access the same Live Map on the same device (settings are not saved between different Live Maps or different devices) unless you clear your cache or reset your preferences.
  • Notifications (desktop only)
    • This feature allows you to receive desktop notifications for specific Pokémon (separate from your show/hide Pokémon filters).

Advanced Functions

  • More Settings
    • Custom URL – If you have a link to a sprite sheet of icons, you can replace the default icons with custom ones using this feature.
    • Latitude, Longitude, and Distance – This feature allows you to set a radius (distance) around a specific location (determined by a set latitude and longitude – you can use Google Maps to find your exact coordinates) in which you will receive desktop notifications for Pokémon you have filtered under “Notification” settings. Press “Show/Hide” radius to see the area that you will receive desktop notifications for.
    • Other Settings Toggle notification sound, toggle fixed marker opacity(???), show timer under markers, and Reset all preferences.
  • IV/Level Pokémon filters
    • There are minimum and maximum sliders that allow you select a window of IVs and levels that you want to see.
    • Any IV/Level filters will apply to Pokémon selected on your “show” filter.
    • The OR button stands for override. If you want to see a Pokémon regardless of its stats, select this.  Unown is the only Pokémon that will override IV/Level filters by default (you can change this if you wish).
    • When you adjust your filter settings the map WILL NOT AUTOMATICALLY adjust. To apply your IV/Level filter settings, click “Refresh Mons”. Anytime you make an adjustment to your IV/Level filters, you must click this button to update these settings.
  • “Where I have raided”
    • This feature allows you to keep track of gyms you have raided at. This feature only works if you use the “I am going” checkbox on the raid detail pop-up.

C. Common problems and solutions

  • If you are using an iPhone and the map asks you to use storage: authorize the storage. This allows map tiles to be cached which will improve performance when zooming in/out on the map.
  • Live Map seems to not be working? Check the #announcements channel on Discord to see if the Live Map is down. If no announcements, it is most likely an issue on the device end. First, try refreshing the page. If that doesn’t work, clear cache. If that doesn’t work, reset preferences on the map. If that doesn’t work, clear cookies. If nothing works, go to the #report-areas-down-here channel on Discord and report the specific Live Map that you are having an issue with.

D. Uncommon problems and solutions

  • Timers under gyms or Pokémon appear with 00:00:00 underneath and are not displaying useful information – This is an issue with your device’s clock. Make sure your device is in the correct time zone and the clock is correct.
